Proceeds from the sales of the candle of the month will go to the Light the Night Walk. I am also looking for people to join my team!

Why The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society?

May 22, 2021 was my 53rd birthday and the day I was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. Routine blood work on a Friday afternoon, followed by a frantic call from my doctor on Saturday morning, sent me directly to the emergency room I was told I absolutely could not wait until Monday. The following hours/days included a trail of doctors, endless blood work, a bone marrow biopsy and a weeklong stay in the hospital to pump my body with chemotherapy while we waited to see which kind of leukemia I had. I promise you, NONE of those events were part of my birthday weekend plans!

My new norm now includes chemotherapy twice a day, regular blood work ups and follow up doctor visits to keep me “healthy”. Since my diagnosis, the support from my family, friends and doctors has been amazing! Now it is my turn to give back and I am asking for your help.

At Light the Night, their aim to bring light to the darkness of cancer through research and cures. Light The Night is a series of fundraising campaigns benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) funding of research to find blood cancer cures. They bring hope instead of despair by working to ensure access to treatments for all blood cancer patients. They bring communities together to celebrate those who are fighting the disease and to honor those we have lost.

They are taking steps to end cancer. TOGETHER WE CAN LIGHT THE NIGHT.

To learn more about leukemia and leukemia awareness month, check out these resources.

• The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is the largest nonprofit organization of its kind. It actively provides support to individuals affected by leukemia and is a fantastic resource for information about Leukemia Awareness Month. Look for the LLS hashtag, “#FightBloodCancer,” on social media.
• The Lymphoma Coalition and International Myeloma Foundation are two other fantastic resources for blood cancer patients and loved ones of those affected. For more information about both leukemia and cancer in general, visit the National Cancer Institute and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
• World Lymphoma Awareness Day takes place on September 15, so keep this date in mind if you want to show support through a fundraiser or by wearing orange.
